Orthodontics
Mount Eliza Dental Clinic provides orthodontics to treat and enhance alignment of teeth and jaws.
We specialise in professional orthodontics to diagnose, prevent and treat malocclusion, more commonly known as ‘bad bite’.
Our orthodontics can treat problems caused by malocclusion through designing and application of corrective appliances – such as braces, plates, and functional appliances – to bring the teeth and jaws into proper alignment.
Orthodontics
….getting started early (as young as 8-9 yrs of age).
Tradition and more usual orthodontic treatment begins when the permanent teeth have erupted. It may involve full banding, plates, headgear etc.
Sometimes early orthodontic treatment can start even before deciduous(baby) teeth are lost. Usually targeting one specific problem, early alignment can reduce either the overall duration of full braces ,the cost, or even allow correction before the problem gets worse. While not benefit in every case, early treatment can partially improve severe bite problems while waiting for full banding at a later stage.
Before any orthodontic treatment, an assessment involving record taking and xray evaluation will be needed.
Malocclusions that require early orthodontic assessment:
-thumb sucking or long term use of dummy which has led to anterior open bite
-deep bite
-narrow upper jaw
-lower jaw back , upper jaw to forward(giving the appearance of ‘buck’ teeth)
-posterior cross-bites
-upper jaw back, lower jaw to forward(reverse overbite)
-severe crowding
-early loss of teeth causing loss of space for permanent teeth
Adult Orthodontics
It is very common these days for adults to also have braces placed on their teeth to straighten maligned teeth. This is a very conservative method of treating maligned, spaced or crowded teeth as it involves no tooth structure removal. Records need to be taken to diagnose the problem and give the best treatment options.
