When the nerves in a tooth (the root canals) become infected or begin to die, it can be a very painful and distressing experience that in the past often resulted in tooth loss, with all the problems that can arise from missing teeth, but modern dentistry has changed all that.

Root canal treatment is the process of cleaning out and sealing off the root canals in a tooth, allowing us to save teeth that would otherwise have to be removed, preventing infections from spreading to the jawbone, and often in a pain-free manner.

Our focus when performing root canal treatment is on minimising the pain you experience in this situation, and doing what is needed to help you keep your tooth.

Often teeth requiring root canal treatment are heavily filled and weak, and so usually will require a crown afterward to maximise the tooth life-span, we will advise you of this when we have assessed the tooth.
